Oakwood School, located in Northern Virginia, is seeking dedicated, innovative, and nurturing Classroom Teacher (grades 6-8) to join our experienced team for the 2026-2027 school year.
Oakwood is a private school serving bright students in grades 1-8 with learning differences such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. Our approach centers on small class sizes, multisensory teaching, and individualized instruction. Each classroom has two teachers for 10-13 homeroom students, allowing for meaningful differentiation and a truly collaborative work environment.
With approximately 120 students, 22 classroom teachers, and a robust team of academic coaches and leaders, we are committed to fostering a supportive environment for students and staff.
As an Oakwood Classroom teacher, you will:
Independently teach reading, writing, and math to a small group of up to 7 students.
Co-teach science or social studies alongside your classroom partner to a group of approximately 13 students.
Build strong relationships with families through regular communication and progress updates.
Participate in weekly collaboration meetings with cohort teachers and academic leadership to ensure cohesive, effective instruction.
Prepare student progress reports on a monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual basis.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
2-3 years of teaching experience in special education or with students with learning differences (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and/or ADHD) at the upper elementary or middle school level.
Experience with structured literacy approaches and ability to teach across content areas.
Preferred Qualifications
Virginia Teaching License, or eligibility to obtain one, with a special education endorsement.
Master's degree in special education or related field.
