Job Summary:
| The Special Education Coordinator position is responsible for providing support to school staff members in relation to special education. Specifically, the coordinator is responsible for compiling and analyzing data and providing support to schools for complex situations and instructional needs. The successful candidate should have experience and in-depth knowledge of special education regulations and/or specialized instruction. |
Essential Responsibilities Specific to this Job:
| • | Assesses special education data necessary to help lead IEP teams in making appropriate educational decisions for SWD. | |
| • | Provides professional development support and coordination for school staff members involved in procedural support processes to include IEP training, development of PWN, and data collection and interpretation. | |
| • | For specialized instructional coordinators, the ability to support cluster schools in providing specialized instruction, monitoring student progress, and coaching teams to collect and interpret data. | |
| • | Monitors procedural support concerns or specialized instructional concerns with cluster schools and works collaboratively with cluster coordinators and schools. | |
| • | Provides procedural support or instructional strategies as requested by school. | |
| • | Actively supports the Special Education Department in all areas of responsibility. | |
| • | Responds to immediate situations on a day-to-day basis to resolve the issues in a professional manner | |
| • | Acts as special education consultant regarding Individualized Education Programs (IEP), eligibility, and other special education meetings, as scheduled. | |
| • | Fosters collaborative relationships between all stakeholders with a focus on student needs and achievement. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Behaviors:
| • | Knowledge of special education regulations and specialized instruction. | |
| • | Ability to lead an IEP team in challenging situations | |
| • | Ability to identify trends related to concerns with instruction or procedural support | |
| • | Ability to plan, organize, and deliver professional development related to procedural support or specialized instruction. | |
| • | Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a concise manner. | |
| • | Position is exempt and requires flexibility to work beyond 8 hours as needed. |
