This person will serve as the special education program leader. Primary responsibilities associated with this role include the following:
Provide program coordination and leadership to the Florida Department of Education state approved combined bachelor’s and master’s degree (BS/MS) special education program
Serve as the primary advisor for the combined BS/MS special education students
Teach special education courses for general and special education majors
Supervise field and internship experiences
Regularly communicate with the Office of Academic and Intern Support (OASIS) to ensure compliance with Florida Department of Education teacher preparation program statutes and rules.
Establish and maintain relationships with partner districts to secure quality practicum and intern placements for teacher candidates
Identify potential adjunct faculty and provide supervision of courses taught by adjunct faculty
Engage in service to the program, department, college, university, and profession
Doctoral degree in special education from an accredited university. Applicants with ABD status will be considered but the position requires successful completion of all doctoral requirements prior to the agreed upon start date; and
Minimum of three years K–12 teaching experience in special education within the United States
Previous teaching experience in or coordination of a state or nationally approved teacher education program
Previous personnel preparation grant development and management experience
Experience teaching in traditional and online formats
This is a 12-month position at the rank of Teaching Faculty I (non-tenure-earning with opportunity for promotion) in the School of Teacher Education (STE).
