Major Work Characteristics/Summary of Position
The YSU Department of Teachers Education and Leadership Studies is seeking a candidate for an Assistant Professor position to teach Primary Education (P-5) and Primary Intervention Specialist courses. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses offered in the Elementary Intervention Specialist (ELIS) program and engage in scholarship, professional and university service, and program development. The candidate should have an ability and willingness to develop, implement, and coordinate/supervise field experiences; and develop and teach online courses and or programs.
The mission of the Department of Teacher Education and Leadership Studies is to prepare teachers and administrators who provide quality instruction and leadership in an environment designed to meet the needs of diverse learners, and to assist them in developing 21st century skills. The department has a consistent record of accomplishments in relation to the mission and goals of YSU, assessment activities/results, research and scholarly activity by faculty and students, examples of student success and academic excellence, and community engagement activities.
Plans, organizes, teaches, and provides feedback to promote and direct student success. Responds to students in a timely manner. Communicates with students, departments, and university officials via university provided tools and resources.
Ability to contribute to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the University community through teaching.

Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate of Education, by the time of appointment, in the areas of primary education, elementary education, early childhood education, and/or special education. Three (3) years of experience teaching in a P-5 inclusive public education classroom. Evidence of potential for success in teaching, service, and scholarship.
Preferred Qualifications
Dual doctoral degree and/or concentration in primary education and special education. Experience teaching special education and/or primary childhood courses at a university level. Understanding of, or interest in, special education and primary childhood education program approval requirements and CAEP accreditation.
