The Indiana University Northwest School of Education is seeking to fill the position of Assistant Professor of Special Education. This position is a full-time, tenure-track, 10-month position with summer assignments and associated stipends in accordance with programmatic need. The Assistant Professor will teach three courses each semester and will engage in active research and publication, and provide service to the department, campus, discipline and the community.
Description of Duties:
Teaching undergraduate and graduate-level Special Education and/or Education-related fields. • Serving on multiple faculty committees. • Advising undergraduate and graduate students. • Supervising field experience and student teaching candidates. • Conducting research leading to publication in refereed journals and/or grant applications. • Collaborating in partnerships with university faculty, schools, and communities. • Full participation in program assessment and accreditation activities.
Required Qualifications: • An earned Doctorate at time of hire in Special Education and/or Education-related field (K-12 content field, school or institutional Juvenile psychology) from an accredited university • Two or more years of teaching experience at an elementary and/or secondary school setting in the United States or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications: • Experience working with diverse cultural groups, especially in urban environments. • Demonstrated excellence and innovation in teaching. • Evidence of potential for supervising and advising undergraduate and graduate students. • Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills. • Experience collaborating in partnerships with university faculty, schools, and communities. • Evidence of potential for developing a scholarly/research trajectory of publications and/or grants. • ABD candidates are encouraged to apply; conferred doctorate at time of appointment is required.
