The Department of Counseling, Leadership, and Educational Studies at Winthrop University is seeking an innovative and involved non-tenure-track assistant professor to teach in an experiential educator preparation program. The position includes teaching in an undergraduate and graduate teacher certification program. The position provides the opportunity to supervise pre-service teacher candidates in field experiences and internships as well as teach special education and literacy coursework. We seek a candidate who will be an exemplary teacher and active participant in the college, on-campus, and with community partners.

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in special education and literacy
Supervise students in field and internship placements
Collaborate with public school/university faculty to plan and teach in an experience-based curriculum
Participate in service to the program, department, college, university, and profession
Advise and mentor initial teacher preparation candidates
Use technology to enhance student learning, increase access, maintain program data, and facilitate recruitment and retention efforts
Engage with education core, content, and program faculty to ensure fidelity of the educator preparation program
Engage in teaching and other program-related activities in the evenings, summers, online, and occasionally weekends, as needed
Engage on site in high-need rural areas with NetSERVE grant districts through supervision, teaching, professional collaborations. and mentoring for a residency program
Position is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure track position with option of summer employment if enrollment is sufficient. Grant funded positions renewed on an annual basis for up to four years.

Doctorate in special education or literacy education with at least 18 graduate semester hours in both special education and literacy
P-12 teaching experience
Experience in collaboration that shows ability to work in a team environment with the department, college, university, community, and P-12 school partners
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
At least three years of successful P-12 teaching
Demonstrated ability in the use of technology and digital tools for instructional purposes
Demonstrated leadership ability
Experience in mentoring and/or supervising teacher candidates
Experience with preparing teacher candidates for the edTPA
Experience working with diverse populations
Teaching experience in higher education
Experience with rural communities
