Our vision is that research-based problem solving can improve the lives of all people. We are currently seeking a Researcher with expertise in special education research, policy, and practice. This individual will support projects that evaluate the quality of district and state special education programs. The position is located in our Austin, TX office.

ResponsibilitiesThe selected candidate will strengthen AIR's practice in special education program evaluation and technical assistance. Tasks may include: • Support data collection and analysis for mixed-methods evaluation studies of special education program reviews • Conduct, and analyze data gathered from, school site visits that include classroom observations, interviews and focus groups • Develop, administer and analyze surveys of staff and parents related to special education • Review and analyze documents such as special education strategic plans, special education procedural manuals, and redacted Individualized Education programs (IEPs) • Write final reports and deliver presentations on findings from special education program evaluations • Develop content for and deliver trainings on special education best practice and compliance Qualifications• Ph.D in special education, coursework in program evaluation and quantitative and qualitative research methods preferred • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience conducting mixed methods program evaluation studies • Experience conducting and analyzing data from surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, and documents • Familiarity with common state and district-level sources of special education data such as achievement data, placement data, identification data • Understanding of special education law and policy, including intersection of special education with multi-tiered systems of support • Ability to clearly describe research methods in written and oral form, in a user-friendly manner to district and state clients • Clear, analytic thinker • Strong writing and presentation skills |
