Provides leadership for program development, professional development, and staff support in the field of vision services.
Supervises and evaluates Teachers of the Visually Impaired and Licensed Orientation and Mobility Specialists within an assigned geographical region of Iowa. Also supervises and evaluates a group of consultants who provide statewide technical assistance in specialized content areas.
Works collaboratively with the Superintendent, other Regional Directors, and numerous teams of professionals to ensure the successful delivery of vision services to students who are blind and visually impaired in Iowa.
Develops and fosters partnerships with related organizations including Area Education Agencies (AEAs), Local Education Agencies (LEAs); the Iowa Department for the Blind; the Iowa Department of Education; parents; and professional and para-professional staff.
Full time, Calendar-year appointment. Office location negotiable. Position starts by August 1, 2019. Criminal and other relevant background checks required. Applications will be accepted beginning immediately. Applications received by February 8, 2019 will be given first consideration.
Master’s degree in education or special education plus at least three years of teaching experience in special education required. Candidates must meet State of Iowa requirements for administrator licensure and teacher licensure by time of appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to hold or seek evaluator endorsement upon appointment. Frequent travel within Iowa, including some overnights, will be necessary.
Teaching endorsement in visual impairment preferred. Leadership and supervisory experience in special education also preferred.

Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired / Iowa Braille School is governed by the Board of Regents, State of Iowa. Our agency provides leadership in the field of vision in the State of Iowa through an inter-governmental agreement. We provide services to children in Iowa who are blind, visually impaired, deaf-blind, or multi-handicapped with a visual impairment, from birth through age twenty-one. Itinerant Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs) and Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists (COMS) serve students throughout the state, delivering instruction to children in their local public schools, private schools and at times in the home setting.
