The Elementary Education and Reading Education Programs in the School of Teacher Education at Florida State University invite applications for a specialized teaching faculty position. We seek a faculty colleague focused on diverse communication challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. The successful candidate will teach courses focused on Reading and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) in the reading endorsement course sequence for the Elementary Education program leading to initial teacher certification. Our goal is to prepare teaching professionals who not only use evidence-based practices to succeed in their classrooms but also seek to improve their schools, communities, academic disciplines, and their professions.
The College of Education, the School of Teacher Education (STE), and the Reading and Elementary Education programs strive to develop a deep understanding of, and respect for, diversity among students and colleagues.
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in a teacher certification program in the Reading and ESOL endorsement course sequence
Coordinate the Reading Endorsement Coursework within the STE for Elementary Education, Special Education, and English Education
Coordinate Reading program practicum placements across the Elementary Education and Special Education programs
Liaise with and prepare reports for the Florida Department of Education
Serve on graduate committees
Provide service to schools, the University, Department, College, and the profession.
Earned doctorate in Reading Education, Special Education (with a focus on Reading), or a related field by August 2019
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Significant experience and leadership in teaching reading and/or ESOL in K-6 educational settings
Commitment to and experience with working with diverse student populations
Experience working with struggling readers at the K-12 level
Experience mentoring pre-service and in-service teachers
Successful teaching experience at the college or university
The anticipated start date for this position is 8/2019.
