Be part of an innovative and successful program serving children who are blind and visually impaired throughout the State of Iowa.
Participates in the planning and execution of statewide extended learning opportunities for students who are blind or visually impaired, including day programs, weekend events and summer programs. Serves as a statewide resource to IESBVI staff, Local Education Agency (LEA) staff and families in all areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) with a focus on social interaction skills, independent living, recreation/leisure, self-determination and career education and transition. Serves as Activities Director for all IESBVI coaches.
Full time, calendar year appointment (work year-round). Office location flexible within the State of Iowa. Position starts as soon as possible. Criminal and other relevant background checks required. Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, therapeutic recreation or related field plus at least one year of experience program planning and facilitation required. The ability to travel regularly throughout the state and occasionally out of state, including some overnights, is also required. Experience working with children with special needs preferred. Current Iowa Coaching Authorization/Endorsement also preferred.

Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired / Iowa Braille School is governed by the Board of Regents, State of Iowa. Our agency provides leadership in the field of vision in the State of Iowa through an inter-governmental agreement. We provide services to children in Iowa who are blind, visually impaired, deaf-blind, or multi-handicapped with a visual impairment, from birth through age twenty-one. Itinerant Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs) and Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists (COMS) serve students throughout the state, delivering instruction to children in their local public schools, private schools and at times in the home setting.
